This is an influential role working in our dynamic Climate and Environmental Planning team, you’ll be leading the way and guiding

**All about the job**

Decisions on the Proposed District Plan and Intensification Planning Instrument have recently been notified. The team are now looking forward to working alongside our legal counsel on responding to any appeals and preparing plan changes as necessary. With the changes happening at Regional and Central Government level, the team are heavily involved in these processes.

The District Plan aims to weave the requirements of the RMA with the Council’s strategic directions which are:

- Investing in 3 Waters infrastructure and catchment restoration
- Proactively responding to the climate crisis
- Advocating for and providing a safe, healthy and thriving community
- Putting children and young people at the heart of the city
- working in partnership with Ngāti Toa on district planning
- assisting and/or overseeing major new plan changes, including leading engagement
- supporting and advising on regional processes, including those coming out of Greater Wellington Regional Council and the Wellington Regional Leadership Committee
- providing analysis and advice on central and regional government policy changes and how to respond
- supporting the Council’s climate change response including implementation through the District Plan.

We are seeking an RMA specialist who understands local government, is culturally informed and confident working with diverse communities and thrives in a fast paced environment. We want someone who is driven to keep up-to-date and informed of changes to the legislation.

You’ll also have a good understanding of the value of community networks and internal partnerships and need to demonstrate that you:

- have (ideally) seven years’ experience working with the RMA for senior planners or a minimum of two to three years’ experience for intermediate planners;
- have a solid understanding of local authorities and of the district plan development process;
- have excellent written communication skills and are comfortable with public speaking and leading meetings or workshops
- have excellent analytical, conceptual thinking and problem solving abilities **OR **bring a constructive, inquisitive approach to problem solving and resolving issues; and
- have a strong relationship management focus that inspires trust and confidence and builds productive relationships with key stakeholders as well as decision-makers
- work effectively in a small, hardworking and dynamic team.
