Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is spread across a vast geographical area and centred across two hospitals based in Tauranga and Whakatāne. We serve a population of approximately 259,000 for the major population centres of Tauranga, Katikati, Te Puke, Whakatāne, Kawerau and Ōpōtiki. Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is one of the Bay of Plenty's largest employers with over 4000 staff.

He Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
Whakatāne Hospital is a purpose-built secondary care hospital offering acute services to the people of the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Services offered include emergency medicine, paediatric, general and orthopaedic surgery, obstetrics and mental health - alongside acute and ambulatory general medicine.
The Medical service consists of a team of seven physicians who work alongside the multidisciplinary team and junior medical staff to provide patient care for both acute and long-term conditions.
Current physicians within the service have wide experience in acute medicine and areas of subspeciality such as rural medicine.
Access to other subspecialty areas such as oncology, renal and neurology are available regionally at Tauranga and Waikato Hospitals with clinics being delivered at Whakatāne regularly.
Working in the acute medical service at Whakatāne is rewarding and busy with a wide range of patient case types and complex presentations. Like many hospitals of this size, there are close collegial relationships across all services and a friendly supportive work environment.

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Medical consultant with strong skills and experience in acute medicine, an interest in training and growing junior medical staff and a commitment to growth in secondary health service delivery to meet current and future health care needs within a unique NZ population.
Applicants must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Councilor be training in NZ and with 9 months or less of advanced training remaining to achieve FRACP.
