**Transport Planner / Engineer (New Plymouth)**

Join our Transport Advisory team and help shape the future of transport in New Plymouth, New Zealand, and beyond. You will be part of a practice and team working on complex challenges such as climate change, integrated land use planning, mode shift from solo occupied cars, and evaluating the land-use and wider economic benefits of transport projects. You will have scope to work across clients throughout the region, such as with our current projects with New Plymouth District Council, Waka Kotahi and many more developing the urban streetscape to enable a connected community.

Key Elements to the role:

- Shape the transport network across New Plymouth and New Zealand, providing strategic consultancy services
- Support the delivery of transformational transport and land-use planning and engineering projects, while learning from some of the best
- Work with colleagues from a range of disciplines including our design and planning teams, while developing your career in a multi-disciplinary consulting firm

**Te kāinga rua | The opportunity**

Develop your transport planning and consulting career, while supporting the delivery of transport planning projects across all aspects of the transport network. You will be working across a broad range of tasks with leading transport planners, to deliver a range of transport project business cases, transport assessments, and road safety studies. You will be joining a nationwide team with an enviable track record, known by our clients for delivering key strategic transport projects. We lead projects of all sizes for a diverse group of clients and work as an integrated team of over 70 transport planners, traffic engineers, transport modelers, and modes experts operating from Beca locations throughout New Zealand and Australia.

As well as supporting Waka Kotahi - NZ Transport Agency, and local authorities served by our regional offices, we also work with key local clients such as Kainga Ora, KiwiRail, and Councils across the lower North Island. As a transport planner you be working on ways to assist our clients in finding a solution to their problems, whether through the business case approach, preparing integrated transport assessment reports, or through bespoke traffic engineering, road safety, and transport planning approaches.

To be successful in this role, you will need some experience (around three or more years) in a related role, with a real passion for transport planning. You will be motivated to learn, to develop, to listen to our clients’ needs and to work in a collaborative and team-based environment to deliver for our clients. In this role, you will have plenty of scope for success with wide client exposure and working with our technical experts, providing you with extensive career and professional development opportunities.

**Te rongoā | About you**

Our transport planners & engineers come from a broad range of backgrounds and professions. You could have a background in geography, planning, anthropology, economics, or a more traditional civil engineering qualification. However, you need to be ready to make a difference, and understand the ‘craft’ of providing quality advice while balancing a broad range of stakeholder viewpoints to deliver optimum transport outcomes.

You will be a people person, creating the environment to express, understand and work with very different viewpoints. You will enjoy the challenge of working collaboratively with stakeholders, with the ability to guide discussions to enable project delivery. You will be calm, comfortable with ambiguity and differences, yet excited by the role you will play in working with people to shape communities through transport planning projects.

This position requires excellent communication and writing skills, and a broad understanding of the district plan and how local government operates. Our current portfolio of work includes the significant business case projects, and Road to Zero safety projects.
