**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**

We are excited to offer funding for a new postdoctoral position for a Pacific researcher in the Faculty of Science, as part of the Ngā Motu Whakahī Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme. This scheme is a new initiative that has dual aims:
1. To provide a career path for Māori and Pasifika into science research, and

2. To provide leadership for the Ngā Motu Whakahī (NMW) programme, a targeted cohort
- building programme in our faculty aimed at building pathways to research for all Māori and Pasifika students and growing future Māori and Pasifika research leaders.

The position is full time (40 hours per week) for a period of two years, starting as soon as possible. During your postdoctoral fellowship 0.7 FTE of your time will be spent on your research, and 0.3 FTE supporting the NMW programme. More details on each of these components is discussed below. For the leadership part of your role, you will work alongside the Ngā Motu Whakahī postdoctoral fellow - Māori.

The research component

The project leadership component

For this component you will work with the programme advisory group* to lead the Ngā Motu Whakahī programme. A key responsibility will be engaging with our Pacific students and staff on programme activities. Examples of tasks that may be carried out:

- Working with Pacific students and staff as well as the faculty research support team to facilitate the summer research experience initiative (launched last year).
- Liaising with communications and marketing specialists to develop products (such as short films) that showcase Pasifika researchers and celebrate student successes, and to establish a website and/or social media presence for the programme.
- Supporting the development of a Pasifika vertical mentoring programme.
- Exploring alignment and integration with the Tuākana programme.
- The programme advisory group currently comprises the Associate Deans Māori, Pacific and Research and the Kaiārahi. Note: administrative support will also be provided to assist with routine administrative tasks.

This is a fulltime (40 hours per week), 24 month fixed term contract.
Remuneration: $80,000 - $100K (approx. 2002) dependent on experience

**He kōrero mōu | About you**

As this is a postdoctoral position you should have a PhD degree or equivalent, and a keen interest in research.

In terms of the project leadership component of the role we are hoping to attract applicants who are very keen on developing their leadership skills, especially around Pacific research mentoring.

You will have a deep understanding of Pasifika values and culture, experience working with Pasifika on projects involving Pasifika, and an openness to engage with Pasifika staff and students.

You may also have project management experience and experience with mentoring programmes to increase diversity, but this is not essential.
