**Overview**

These fellowship positions are intended for trainees who have completed their RANZCOG core training. They offer general O&G training at a senior level whilst developing an area of special interest/ sub-specialty. They include opportunities for professional development to facilitate completion of specialist training and preparation to becoming vocationally registered and a practicing O&G Specialist. This may include developing and leading the teaching of the junior medical staff, assistance with their training and roster co-ordination, audit and guideline development. A research project is also encouraged during this year.

**Counties Manukau Health District**

Offers one-year positions in a busy Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service across several clinical areas. Each position will include the opportunity to practice as the senior doctor in the acute team with available back-up from an Senior Medical Officer (SMO) to assist the transition from trainee to specialist.

The Fellowship opportunities typically available during any given training year focus on the following clinical areas and are administered through NRA:
**High Risk Obstetric**s - This position reflects the complexities of practicing Obstetrics in a large tertiary unit with a varied population. You will have the opportunity to be involved in the multidisciplinary antenatal and postnatal care for women with a range of medical conditions through the Obstetric Medical Clinic, the Diabetes in Pregnancy clinic and by being a member of the Maternity ward medical team. This position also involves a dedicated session of Obstetric ultrasound with the Fetal Medicine team. The Obstetric Fellow is expected to lead the Obstetric Clinical Practice group which concentrates on guidelines and current Obstetric issues within the hospital. If continued exposure to general gynaecology is required, this position can include regular gynaecology outpatient clinics and theatre opportunities.

Gynaecological Oncology (nontertiary) - This position encompasses general gynaecology at a senior trainee level with a focus on gynaecological oncology (non-tertiary). The trainee will gain experience in both open and laparoscopic surgery (including the obese and highrisk patients). The position includes taking part in the regional MDT meeting and being part of the local "faster cancer treatment" initiative. It would be suitable for a trainee wishing to become a Generalist in O&G with a gynaecological oncology interest.

**General O&G** (suitable for the RANZCOG generalist Advanced Training module (ATM)) - This position encompasses general Obstetrics and Gynaecology in a busy environment. A focus is on meeting the requirements of the generalist ATM, the opportunity to take a clinical leadership role (with support) for acute duties and the opportunity to acquire C-QUIP. The position involves roster co-ordination and general support to the house-officer and registrar team.

**Waitemata District**

From a clinical standpoint, there is scope for fellows to focus on a number of different service areas.

There is also opportunity to be part of complex high-risk obstetrics clinics and subspecialty services such as urogynaecology clinics and theatres.

This position will include active participation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinical Governance Activities. There is also scope to work in service development activities.

The position includes independent clinics, theatre lists and on-call shifts with named and present SMO support. This provided an ideal “step up” opportunity.

Independent fellow lists and clinics allow the opportunity for the fellow to build the skills required for the step up to SMO level whilst being well supported.

You will be an active member of the team and develop essential clinical and communication skills in this area. You will coordinate the monthly Clinical Gynae meeting that is held jointly with radiology and pathology and participate in the Oncology MDM meetings.
- 12 month position available (potential to increase to 24 months)
