About the role

The Canterbury District Intelligence Unit supports New Zealand Police leaders and operational staff to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing. Our mahi is used to inform deployment of resources, understand the criminal environment and crime problems, and facilitate evidence-based action and prevention on our roads, in our homes and communities, and to keep our people safe.

You will excel in interpreting information from a wide variety of data sources, using analytical tools, before clearly and concisely communicating your findings. You will also have an eye on the ‘big picture’ be able to identify thematic issues and provide objective recommendations in verbal and written briefings to a range of audiences.

You must be able to manage the nature of the work we undertake, and the organisational challenges faced by Police Intelligence. The environment can be fast paced and as such you need to be adaptable.

**Key Accountabilities (Intelligence Analyst)**:

- Proactively identify emerging or escalating trends in crime issues.
- Development of high-quality written reports/presentations and provide clear and concise verbal briefings appropriate to a range of audiences.
- Actively and positively contribute to collaborative projects and group analysis.
- Effectively manage competing priorities and demands to maintain quality of work under strict timeframes.
- Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external).
- Champion diverse world views, different perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and identifying opportunities to reflect these in Intelligence products.

The preferred applicants will be able to demonstrate the following:

- A sound knowledge of intelligence practises and crime science.
- An ability to work effectively in a team environment - bringing a positive energy.
- Shows initiative and can work unsupervised (reliable and dependable).
- Can work effectively and calmly under pressure.
- Able to work to short deadlines.
- Comfortable managing multiple demands from a variety of people.
- Available at short notice and able to work at alternate locations where required.

**Special requirements**:

- New Zealand or Australian citizenship, or a permanent NZ resident
- Successful applicants must reside in Canterbury or Must be willing to relocate. The role is based in Christchurch.
- Hold the NZ Diploma in Intelligence Analysis (NZDIA) or equivalent or able to complete NZDIA modules early in employment
- Hold a full driver license or be able to complete early in employment

How to apply

Remuneration upon appointment to the Intelligence Analyst role will be $79,948 - $92,919 and for the Senior Intelligence Analyst role it will be $94,854 - $110,456
