Port of Tauranga is New Zealand’s largest port and international freight gateway. Last year, our team of highly skilled mariners assisted in the safe passage of over 3,200 vessel movements through Tauranga Moana.

Opportunities have arisen for motivated individuals to join the Port's Marine Team as Casual Tug Engineers.

Tug Engineers are responsible for the maintenance and operation of our fleet of three Port tugs. The roles report directly to our Marine Operations Manager.

Our Tug crews are rostered across a 24/7 shift pattern and the successful applicants will be flexible to support the team and meet the Port’s operational requirements.
- Passionate about learning new skills and developing your marine expertise in a commercial environment;
- An effective communicator who deals with people in a professional and considerate manner;
- A confident decision maker with proven ability to assess and manage risk;
- Able to work well under pressure;
- Able to work in both a team environment and unsupervised;
- Available to work a shift roster, including night shift and weekends;
- Strongly focused on health, safety and the environment; and
- Positive and approachable.

The successful applicant for this role will currently hold a minimum MEC 5 Certificate of Competency, however MEC 3 or higher is preferred, backed up with recent relevant experience, and a strong operational and safety record.

Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand is also required.
