This role will focus on nitrogen management in the Lake Taupo catchment and can be **based in either Hamilton or Taupo **.

The purpose of this role specifically is to contribute to the ongoing improvement of water quality in our taonga Lake Taupo.

The primary role of a Monitoring Officer with Waikato Regional Council is to undertake site inspections, assess environmental data, determine potential environmental effects, build relationships with our businesses and communities, coordinate technical specialists, follow up on non-compliance, and report on outcomes. Occasionally the role will require you to carry through with the investigation of an offence and prepare documentation to support the necessary enforcement action to be taken.

An understanding of Te Ao Māori and an ability to demonstrate a clear commitment to working with iwi to meet both our Treaty obligations and the growing expectations of tangata whenua across the region are a must.

- _Is great at building _positive relationships with stakeholders to achieve practical outcomes within the boundaries of legislation _
- _Can provide technical support to Consents staff on nitrogen management _
- _Excellent time management, organisation, prioritisation and proactive communication skills _
- _An ability _to understand technical issues and communicate effectively _
- _An ability to plan and schedule own work, and to work with little or no supervision _

- _A relevant degree in science, agriculture, resource management or similar _

- This role sits within the Resource Use directorate. We support Waikato Regional Council’s mission by managing the way natural and physical resources are used and developed within the region. We do this by issuing resource consents and facilitating, monitoring and enforcing activities to support these consents.
