Mō te tūnga - About the role
This is an exciting position for those who pride themselves on delivering high quality and timely information, advice and practical support. You will be passionate about providing high quality and timely information, advice and practical support to the Labour Party Leader and members of the Labour Party Caucus in relation to the media. As a press secretary you will deliver advice relating to media and public relations issues, including campaigns and MP profiles. You may assist with media interviews and prepare material including press releases, media messages, columns, social media and speeches. You will identify media opportunities and risks.

There are several different backgrounds that will add to your success in this position. The core technical skills that you'll be able to bring to this position are a deep practical understanding and appreciation of the importance research plays in making informed decisions, ability to analyse and collate complex data sets and form these into easy-to-understand sound bites and be a world class problem solver. You'll need to bring the ability to prioitise workloads and deliver on (sometimes) conflicting deadlines. Above all else, your strong interpersonal skills will shine through in any setting.
Ngā haepapa - Responsibilities
- Develop specialist knowledge and expertise in specific portfolio(s) and areas of interest, to provide referenced research and robust advice
- Lead the collection, preparation and development of all materials, including speech notes, briefings
- Provide robust advice and information on the development and implementation of new policy
- Develop, analyse and advise on new or current policy

As an employee of Parliamentary Service, you will be politically impartial in your role. An awareness of the political landscape is essential. You'll appreciate the sometimes-unpredictable nature of this environment and instead of letting it faze you, you thrive on it.
The pay band for the role starts at $78,750 per annum and appointments will be based on skills and experience. All employees who work for MPs are employed on an 'events based' agreement, with your employment linked to your MP. This role is full-time based in the Parliamentary Precinct.
