Herd Manager

**The Role**
We are looking for a strong Herd Manager to join our team based in Dunsandel which is an excellent location close to Christchurch. You will be assisting with leading a team and milking 910 cows. This will be on a rotating roster of 6 days on and 2 days off.
You will be a team player, have strong pasture management knowledge and a genuine desire to achieve the farms goals.
The main responsibilities of this role include
- Assist the Farm Manager in achieving agreed production and profitability targets from the herd and farm resources, participating in all farm management activities as required.
- Take responsibility to ensure optimal utilisation of pasture and supplements and communicate in a timely manner any issues or opportunities.
- Managing staff and taking a lead in creating a strong team environment is a vital part of this role and will be our main consideration when hiring someone.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, and lead by example to ensure company goals are achieved or exceeded.
**Skills and Experience**
To be considered for this role will require
- Displays a positive, ‘can do’ attitude.
- Has an affinity for animals.
- Can execute a grazing plan and calculate supplement requirements.
- Other essential skills are tractor work (including mowing), record keeping (Minda skills), cow treatments (mastitis, metrichecking, milk fever), trimming lame cows, drafting on heat cows for insemination and experience with rotorainers.
An Agricultural degree or Primary level 4 is highly regarded in this role and you will ideally have 3 years previous experience on a dairy farm.
