**About the opportunity**

We are looking for an intermediate Linux to work across a range of new and existing projects and services. You will be joining the dynamic and stimulating research environment at Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research where we aim to drive innovation in New Zealand's management of terrestrial biodiversity and land information that support effective management of our land resources to both protect and enhance the terrestrial environment and grow New Zealand's prosperity.

You will be working with scientists and informatics researchers throughout our organisation on a range of interesting projects that are important to environmental issues and present real-world challenges.

**_ Permanent, full-time position, preferred to be located at our Lincoln or Palmerston North sites which includes_**
- Working across 'on-prem', Cloud services (AWS/Azure), and High Performance Computers
- Supporting operational services and deployment pipelines as well being a key member of the product and development team creating new products for stakeholders and end users

**About you**

If you are a strong intermediate Linux Devops engineer looking to make a real difference to New Zealand's terrestrial sustainability and you enjoy technical challenges, this role is for you.

**You have**
- a track record in DevOps and automation in Linux environments
- a passion for continuous improvement and best practice approaches
- a strong understanding of source control systems (ideally GIT), continuous integration, issue trackers, and pull request workflows
- experience with containerisation and working across different platform scales
- good awareness of software engineering principles with other scripting such as Bash, Python, Ruby
- some previous experience with web geospatial data delivery and mapping systems
- a drive to produce high-quality, readable, maintainable, and testable deployment pipelines
- excellent written and spoken English, and strong communication and interpersonal skills
- the ability to collaborate well in a team environment, but also able to be self-reliant
- an interest, qualification, or experience in fields such as geospatial mapping, land and landscapes, ecosystems, biology/biodiversity, bioinformatics, environmental data, or data science
