**Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About the role)**

We have a vacancy for a Paediatric Fellow to join our Paediatric team in January 2024. This post offers excellent hands-on training in General and Community Paediatrics. It also fulfils the rural, developmental and community requirements through 12 months’ work in rural paediatrics.

The position can be either 12 months, or 6 months (depending on the availability of two people to cover the entire year). We have nine consultants across Nelson and Blenheim, 2 or 3 house surgeons, a trainee intern and medical students in our team in Nelson.

Rostered duties include one period of 24-hour call during the week in Nelson and once 4-weekly in Blenheim, at Wairau Hospital. There will also be weekend cover, as part of the consultant roster, with backup consultant support.

Teaching duties will include House Surgeons, Trainee Interns from Christchurch, medical students from Wellington and many different allied health professional groups.

Applicants should have completed basic training and be working as an advanced trainee and will ideally be in their last 1-2 years of advanced training.

Nelson Hospital has 147 beds and Wairau Hospital has 65 beds serving a population of 150,000 with approximately 1500 births a year. Nelson Hospital has a dedicated children’s ward, with an integrated special care baby unit, outpatient department, developmental therapy services, level 2 newborn unit and community paediatric services. Visiting tertiary specialist clinics occur in neurology, genetics, cardiology, paediatric surgery, urology and cystic fibrosis. The Paediatric department has a strong emphasis on forging and maintaining community links, both within Nelson and across to Blenheim.
