Port Otago Group’s business comprises a regional container terminal, bulk port activities, cruise and property investment and development. We service South Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, working with customers to streamline their supply chains. Our culture is hands-on, safety focused and encourages continuous improvement.
We are seeking a suitably qualified individual to work as a Pilot within Port Otago Ltd and subsidiary Companies areas of operation, and to work as the Duty Pilot within the office as rostered. The work involves safely piloting a variety of vessels, including Cruise vessels during the season to fishing vessels, along with oil tankers, container vessels and bulk carriers to a range of berths within the Otago Harbour.
**To be considered for this role, you will need to have**:
- Master of a Foreign Going Vessel qualification or a Class 1 Certificate of Competency;
- A Certificate of Medical Fitness for Seafarers;
- Ability to gain a Pilot’s Licence for the appropriate Pilotage Area; and
- An excellent Health and Safety record.
In addition to general Pilotage duties, you will ensure compliance with the Maritime Operators Safety System (MOSS) at all times, take all practicable steps to maintain your fitness for duty, and assist the General Manager Marine in operational process improvement by maintaining an acute industry awareness. Along with the requirements above, we’re after a team player, someone who works well with and alongside others, is prepared to help out their workmates as needed and has a genuine passion for what they do.
**Heads up**:
- A full clean NZ Drivers licence is essential
- You must be able to pass Ministry of Justice, ACC checks and a medical which includes a drug and alcohol test as part of our recruitment process
- Random drug and alcohol testing applies on our worksite
