The maternity services of Te Whatu Ora, Health NZ - Te Matau a Māui, Hawkes Bay are committed to achieving a better future as we embrace achieving equity for whānau Māori.

As a member of our midwifery leadership team, our Midwife Consultant - Māori Strategic Advisor will provide an expert resource for the wider midwifery community as we work towards our shared goals of reducing inequities and eliminating barriers to engagement by enabling whānau Tino Rangatiratanga, Ōritetanga and Mana Motuhake as our commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi.

This strategic position has 3 key priorities within the Whānau and Communities group leadership team: to support a culturally responsive maternity service; prioritise and improve the equity focus of both the maternity workforce and maternity services in relation to health outcomes and wellbeing for Māori, and build pathways that enable midwifery to be a realistic and desirable career for Māori.

Bringing experience in working across the maternity health sector and demonstrating an inclusive and collaborative leadership style, the successful applicant will also bring skills in effective communication, multidisciplinary and professional networking and conflict management, as well as inspirational and strategic abilities. Ideally of Kahungunu descent, fluency in Te Reo would also be of benefit.
