Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do
As the Senior Policy Analyst for Alcohol Harm Reduction, you will be at the forefront of developing and delivering high-quality policy advice within a complex and challenging policy landscape.
Your responsibilities will encompass a diverse range of tasks, including preparing and drafting policy documents, guidelines, and providing ad hoc advice. You will be involved in the entire policy process, from scoping and problem definition to assessing options through rigorous regulatory impact assessment, health impact assessment, and cost-benefit analysis. You will be entrusted with considering implementation, risk mitigation, and evaluation requirements.
Your expertise and experience will be valued as you take on some responsibility in projects and areas, collaborating with others to ensure effective work planning, and achieving results through the delivery of top-notch policy advice. As a vital team member, you will contribute to the administration of statutory obligations and commitments, ensuring proper implementation, monitoring, reporting, and reviewing.
Mentorship will be an essential aspect of your role, as you guide and supervise less experienced staff through the policy development process, contributing to the growth and maintenance of the Ministry's policy capability.
Your dedication and accountability will be recognised, as you take ownership of your work and foster trust and confidence within the Ministry as a senior practitioner of policy advice.
Building strong and collaborative relationships will be key, both within the team, the Directorate, and across the Ministry, the wider health sector, government, and external stakeholders. Your work will always reflect our commitment to equity and meeting Treaty of Waitangi obligations.

Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring
- Tertiary qualification in a health or relevant field
- Proven organisational skills with the ability to think ahead, use initiative, establish priorities and meet deadlines whilst preserving high levels of accuracy and confidentiality
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor complex messages to a range of audiences
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster good stakeholder relationships.
