Christchurch, New Zealand Dawn Aerospace Full time

Our Mission - to fly to space twice in a day.

This is a substantial, complex project and we are looking for someone with strong technical experience and a practical, can-do attitude. This role has huge potential for growth, as the team will need to expand significantly to be able to undertake the next step in the evolution of our spaceplane, the MkIII. The right person will be well placed to help develop the team and technical capabilities required to undertake a project of this scale.

Areas of interest include for instance vehicle stability during ascent and re-entry that requires a good understanding of supersonic flows in relation to flight conditions. The current aerodynamic data set obtained from CFD simulations is already quite extensive, but more data is required. Furthermore, the data obtained through CFD and flight testing requires further interpretation and validation, to gain more confidence in the design of the vehicle and the ability to complete its mission successfully.

The next step in the Aurora programme is the Mk-III that is a two-stage-to-orbit concept to bring a payload into a low earth orbit, which implies future growth with respect to aerodynamics. Key areas of interest within this design are the subsonic and supersonic aerodynamic performance & stability.

**What you will do**:
You will be responsible for all aerodynamic-related activities required for the spaceplane program. This work includes -but is not limited to
- setting up, evaluating, and carrying out aerodynamic simulations using a variety of different tools to aid the design team. You’ll also support other teams with aerodynamics-related analyses, such as processing and interpreting flight test data.

Specific tasks include:

- Perform aerodynamic simulations.
- Evaluate, set up, and maintain (new) aerodynamic simulation tools.
- Define and execute wind tunnel tests.
- Support the definition, execution, post-processing of flight tests.
- Support the vehicle identification.
- Support the assessment of flight performance.
- You shall be flexible in executing tasks that are closely related to aerodynamics.

**Requirements**:
**What you will bring**:

- An advanced qualification in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or similar
- Vehicle design
- Vehicle performance calculations
- Aerodynamic testing (wind tunnel and/or flight)
- Aeroelasticity
- Re-entry
- Other aerodynamic tools

**About Dawn Aerospace**

Our mission is to accelerate the next generation of space users with scalable and sustainable ways to deliver the things they care about from Earth to Space, and from Space to everywhere else. We’re building a spaceplane, a cutting-edge launch vehicle that combines the performance of a rocket with the rapid reusability and economic model of an aircraft. We’re also the fastest-growing supplier of green propulsion systems for satellites in the world. Our turnkey systems manoeuvre satellites in space and deorbit them at the end of their lifetimes.

Important
- For security reasons background checks will be undertaken prior to any employment offers being made to an applicant. These checks will include nationality checks as it is a requirement of this position that you be eligible to access export-controlled information._

If you think you have what it takes, but are unsure that you check every box, we still want to hear from you.
