**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**

Joining the Plans and Places Heritage unit, as a Heritage Arborist you’ll play a vital role in protecting Tāmaki Makaurau’s rich historic heritage for future generations. This role will see you provide specialist advice to help protect notable trees across the region, and ensure Council’s strategic and policy development continues the sustainable management of our heritage trees and landscapes. You’ll take the lead in providing arboriculture expertise in areas such as resource consents, plan changes, funding, environmental court disputes and local events. In addition to working collaboratively with other specialists at Auckland Council, you’ll also engage with Aucklanders and local communities to provide further consultation and education on how we can protect our historic trees. As a proven expert, you’ll lead aspects of the delivery of unit’s projects, and coach and support Council staff and contractors to support positive outcomes.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

You will hold a qualification in arboriculture or another relevant discipline and bring with you around ten years’ experience in the arboriculture industry. You’ll also have strong working knowledge of the Resource Management Act, the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Act 2014, the Waitakere Ranges Heritage Area Act 2008 and other relevant legislation. Previous experience with planning and resource consenting processes would be highly regarded. Prior hearings experience is desirable, though not essential. Critically, you’ll be a reliable and supportive coach to your peers and be able to demonstrate a customer-driven and solutions-based approach from your previous work. As this role may require you to travel around the region using Council vehicles, you’ll also hold a full, clean New Zealand driver’s license.

Salary range will be $90,000 to $100,00 (depending on experience)
