Pūhanga Metarahi me te Rawa Taiao | Civil and Natural Resources Engineering (CNRE) is helping students achieve careers that have a tangible impact on the world we live and work in. Our Civil and Natural Resources Engineering Department is ranked 8th in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities, and this is significantly due to the work performed in our Structures Laboratory. Our research has directly improved NZ standards for construction, and concepts developed have been adopted internationally.

**Āu Mahi | What You Will Do**

We are looking for an engineer who can manage and grow the commercial testing in the Structures Laboratory. You will develop objectives for engaging with industry and key external stakeholders.

You will be working in our Structural Laboratory, which is a highly valued and sought-after asset, engaged in the following activities:

- Planning and coordination of lab usage.
- Development of lab capabilities.
- Instrumenting test specimens (using strain gauges, displacement transducers, load cells, optical tracking devices etc.)
- Checking resistance of steel supports and loading rigs.
- Helping run experiments, fabricating test specimens, setting up and using servo-controlled hydraulic systems.
- Coordinating, planning and conducting commercial testing.
- Providing hands-on support to our technical staff.
- Upholding health and safety, including approval of experimental test designs.

In this role you will work alongside academics, technical staff and students who are leading the world in structural and earthquake design, assessment and retrofit.

You will ensure the laboratory operates smoothly and efficiently, to balance and meet the various stakeholders needs.

**Mōu | Who You Are**

You are a people person who enjoys engaging with stakeholders (academics, technical staff, external clients, testing experts and students). In addition, you will be a successful, collaborative problem solver with the technical skills and experience to help our team execute world-leading structural engineering research.

You will also have:

- A Master's Degree (NZQA Level 9), or higher-level qualification in engineering, that is relevant to structural testing.
- Knowledge (5+ years of relevant experience, or higher-level qualification) with experimental testing, as well as testing equipment and systems. This includes test planning, setup, design, instrumentation, control, data acquisition, data storage (collection, organisation, presentation), operation of actuators and other hydraulic equipment.
- Demonstrated understanding of the engineering research environment and of technical experimental design.
- Competence in MS Word, Excel and Internet browser programs.
