**He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role**

You'll have a vital role to play as the Wake - Over Night Support. You'll provide care and support to the people in our residences, after dark, and encourage and motivate them alongside the Day Shift staff to make good choices. You will be engaged in our community residential service supporting clients who require intensive, high needs support. This is a genuine opportunity to positively influence Tangata Whaiora help them grow and successfully transition back into the community.

This is not an ordinary 9 to 5 job. Our Tangata Whaiora will require wrap around support from us, including after dark, after hours wake over support to ensure they stay safe, and this is where your skills as the Wake Over Support Worker will kick in. This means you'll be coaching people through various life necessities, participating in their evening and night routines, and other pursuits. You'll be working as a key team member alongside Clinical, Residential, Educational and Administrative partners who are all committed and working hard for our people. You will receive robust and exhaustive handovers from the Afternoon shift and in turn provide equally robust handovers to the arriving morning Support Workers at the end of your shift.

You will also receive regular supervision and debriefing with your service manager, in groups and as an individual. You will be trained by us in several key skills, including MAPA [Management of Aggression and Potential Aggression], De-Escalation, Sensory Modulation, First Aide, and Fire Safety

**This is a Permanent part-time role working 16 hours per week on a rotating roster. The position will be based in Palmerston North.**

**Your duties will include but are not limited to**:

- Establish a rapport with tangata whaiora and their whanau.
- Provide day to day support in alignment with client/ tangata whaiora goals and support plans including risk management plans and Safety Plans.
- Work with tangata whaiora to identify significant goals. Provide encouragement and support clients to achieve their goals.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, bringing ideas and updating others on their activities.
- Ensure all incidents are documented appropriately.

**He kōrero mōu | About You**

You'll have life experience, patience, empathy and wisdom to share with the ability to do so in a way that engages Tangata Whaiora. You'll be the type of person that can instantly build rapport with people who have experienced trauma and you can redirect unhelpful behaviour. Additionally, you'll have plenty of resilience and you don't take things personally. Your initiative and proactive approach will be highly valued in your day-to-day work. You'll also need:

- A full, clean, valid driver's license
- Either have or be willing to complete a level 4 Qualification in Youth Work
- Sound judgement with the skills to manage risk and make tough decisions
- Meet our vetting requirements
- New Zealand citizenship or residency
- Additionally, an understanding and confidence in tikanga Māori and te reo Māori would be advantageous.
