Telecommunication Technician

PB NETWORKS LIMITED is a New Zealand-based company working with Chorus on delivering telecommunication services across the Bay of Plenty Region

Full Time: Permanent

Minimum number of hours: 30 hours per week

Core Responsibilities:
Install, maintain, and repair telecommunication devices like telephones, modems, and datatransmission devices.

Meet with customers to understand technical requirements and discuss installation designs.

Install and test fiber networks, ensuring optimal performance and mínimal optical loss.

Install external/internal termination points and configure network components like LAN, modem,router, and switch

Perform splicing of fiber and copper using various tools and equipment.

Determine the best positions for equipment installation in collaboration with customers.

Erect, test, and maintain aerial and underground wires and cables.

Manage network infrastructure using different topologies to ensure smooth operation.

Coordinate design, analysis, and installation processes.

Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues in coordination with Internet Service Providers(ISPs).

Assist in-house IT support with server connections and configurations.

Undertake civil work, including scoping, planning, installing boundary drops, straight joints,micro ducts, and fiber optic hauling.

Conduct onsite assessments, underground asset identification, and fiber-optic loss testing.

Test and maintain standard for copper and fiber cables.

Connect and program Optical Network Terminals (ONT).

Additional Duties:
Diagnose and resolve network issues, repair or replace network components as needed.

Respond to customer inquiries and provide technical problem resolution.

Perform physical tasks such as drilling, trenching, and climbing poles depending on installationmethods.

Liaise with service providers, team members, and field managers for major issues.

Handle documentation and general administrative tasks.

Lead health and safety initiatives throughout the organization.

Qualifications:
1 year of relevant experience and related qualification is mandatory.

Good understanding of telecommunications systems and equipment.

Must be available to work at the weekend when required.

Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
