An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Psychologist to join our team as part of the Department of Corrections' Supervision to Registration (StR) programme.
As a Trainee Psychologist you will, under supervision, be involved in clinical and risk assessments and psychological therapy designed to reduce the offending rates of individuals on sentence. These individuals come from diverse backgrounds, have a range of presenting needs, and benefit from professional support to develop prosocial thinking and behaviours. All work and professional development will be supported by supervision and training. You will be required to develop and maintain a close working relationship with both custodial and community based staff. If you have are able to demonstrate the requirements for StR and are selected, you will be supported in your development of skills, knowledge and commitment that are required of a Psychologist registered under the requirements of the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act (2003). Once accepted you will be required to register as a Trainee with the NZ Psychologist Board prior to commencement, and maintain that registration during the programme.

The pre-requisites and minimum requirements for the StR programme include:
- A minimum grade of second class honours (division one) or better (overall B+ Average) for a Master's in Psychology degree.
**Passes in Masters level papers covering**: psychological assessment, psychopathology/abnormal psychology, and professional practice/ethics.It is considered that these pre-requisites are critical to providing the scaffold on which the supervision plan can then be developed. Furthermore, these specific papers provide the necessary context, background and beginning skills required for working with clients.
It is important that you demonstrate a strong desire to incorporate cultural responsiveness to your work in clinical practice and strategic Departmental work. This will help us contribute to Ara Poutama Aotearoa's Hōkai Rangi strategy.
Full training and supervision will be provided. The post is fixed term for 24 months to allow the applicant time to complete programme requirements. Acceptance into this position does not guarantee successful completion of the StR course of study which has formal programme tasks, supervision, and examination standards.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The salary for this role is $79,751 per annum.
