Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
Joining our Data and Digital team, you will be responsible for understanding the details of and improving all aspects of data management and the quality of data in Te Whatu Ora's National Collections to ensure that data is fit for purpose.
You will work closely with organisations that send their mental health and addiction data to Te Whatu Ora and develop in-depth knowledge of several specific National Collections and a broad understanding of all other Collections, including the data management systems that support each collection, collation and loading data into the warehouse and making it available to analysts.

**Some of your responsibilities will include**:

- Leading the development of continual improvement of processes, including tools, and systems along with wider team capability
- Using a range of software tools (R, SQL, Python, SAS etc) to extract, analyse and test data and share outcomes with external organisations and internal customers to continually improve data quality in the national collections
- Building enduring and professional relationships with key stakeholders in health organisations across the heath sector in NZ and internationally

As a senior in the team, you will also support the Manager with enhancing the capability of the team. You will be training and mentoring colleagues to understand the collection and data management processes involved in national collection data and mentoring more junior members of the team to foster positive relationships.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**:

- A tertiary qualification in a statistical or IT or analytical discipline or other relevant field
- Excellent technical ability and knowledge of coding in a programming language eg R, SQL or others
- 2+ years previous experience working in a data or analytically focused role. Strong data investigation and analytical skills, a sound knowledge of data quality improvement approaches including the ability to extract and manipulate data.
- Experience in mentoring and training others with the a to improve team capability and performance
- Knowledge of data privacy and ethics
- Experience in critical thinking, sound judgement, discretion and ability to work under pressure in an environment of ambiguity and complexity with a high attention to detail
- Expertise in working in different data environments (Oracle, windows, Unix, Cloud etc), data warehouse systems and knowledge of IT system upgrade cycles is highly regarded
- Knowledge of IT system upgrade cycles
- Demonstrated experience of working within a Te Ao Maori environment and understanding Tikanga Maori and/or substantial experience working within a bicultural context with diverse communities and/or organisations.

Previous health sector experience and Knowledge of the Official Information Act and Health Information Privacy Code will be beneficial for success in this role.
