As we look to support individuals, whanau and communities that have been affected by Cyclone Gabrielle we are seeking a passionate and collaborative Community Connector to join our Community Strategies Team on a fixed term (12 months) basis. We are open to this being a full time or part time role, we want to ensure we find the right person for this role.
In this crucial role you will lead and develop community connection and resilience outcomes in communities that have been affected. You will also ensure integration with the Community Advisors mahi and other engagement and community activities that council undertakes.
**R**esponsibilities will include**:
- Be a primary point of contact (client relationships) for those individuals/whanau that have been affected by Cyclone Gabriele by maintaining timely contact and being responsive to emerging needs of the impacted individuals/whanau.
- Work collaboratively with community partners to identify needs and ensure a comprehensive and equitable service is provided.
- Actively engage in a respectful and meaningful way with Maori, Pasifika and other ethnicities.
- Identify and monitor key trends, statistics, issues and service gaps that impact the Napier community.
- Contribute to the development of an annual teamwork programme that aligns with and contributes to Council policy and key funders strategies.
- Create and maintain accurate client records including correspondence information.
- Inform the Manager Community Strategies of any emerging risks or areas for concern.
- Ensure the collection, sharing and storing of personal information complies with relevant legislation and the Privacy Act.
**To be considered for this role, you will have**:
- Tertiary degree qualification in social policy, public policy, community development or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years demonstrated experience in a community role.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications within the local government context.
- Although this role does not provide counsellor or psychological support, experience and or previous experience within emergency recovery social work or mental health is desirable.
- Must be available to attend meetings and events outside regular office hours.
