**What You Will Do**
As a Systems Engineer in Trimble’s Ag division you will work in a cross-functional team to define future product requirements, design and document system architecture, and aid in the development and test of Precision Ag solutions. These systems use GNSS, inertial sensors and actuators such as hydraulic systems, electric motors and steer-by-wire interfaces to create market leading, high reliability systems with sophisticated and intuitive touch-screen user interfaces. The position requires a high-level understanding across various technologies and deep level understanding of embedded compute platforms and their integration in distributed systems.
- Work proactively with Product Management and key customers to define future technical roadmaps while staying informed on the latest technologies and industry trends.
- Involvement with all technical aspects for a given project or product, being recognised as the go-to person for decisions related to the hardware architecture and communication interfaces for distributed systems.
- Lead the selection and evaluation of prototype compute platforms with the latest processors and memory configurations.
- Maintain technical ownership of a product throughout its entire lifecycle.
- Collaborate with other Systems Engineers in the elicitation and formation of the product requirements, delegating portions among the Engineering team, Subject Matter Experts, Compliance, and Manufacturing Operations as needed for technical completeness.
- Speak as a voice of engineering to identify risk areas with regards to implementation, known defects, and mitigation options.
- Understand and develop Safety Concepts to ensure compliance with Functional Safety standards in the Ag industry.
**What Skills & Experience You Should Bring**
- Must be able to work independently and with others in a small team as the situation requires.
- Strong commitment to quality and high attention to detail.
- Self-starter, persistence, inquisitiveness and willingness to learn.
- Comfortable pitching the product vision and project mission to stakeholders from varying backgrounds, often at senior levels in the organization
- Collaborate with engineers to solve complicated and complex problems, and confidently make and defend the resulting decisions.
- Understanding of real-time embedded systems (and other relevant technologies) and strong design principles.
- BS degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- In-depth expertise and demonstrated ability to design and architect real-time computing systems and subsystems including electrical HW, FW, RF, and mechanical interfaces, and be a key player in bringing these products to market.
- Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
- Comfortable engaging in constructive negotiation with Product and Project Managers, anticipating possible objections, to resolve conflicting goals and interests.
