It weaves the functions of the 20 former District Health Boards into its regional divisions and district offices, ensuring continuity of services in the health system.
Here in Waitaha, Canterbury we deliver health services to the almost 600,000 people that live in the Canterbury region. We are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles by ensuring our partnership with Māori are at the forefront of all our conversations.
**Mō te tūnga | About the role**
The Department of General Surgery at Christchurch Hospital are proud of the services we deliver to the people of Canterbury and surrounding DHBs. We are a dynamic and innovative team of 22 SMOs, 19 RMOs and 12 House Officers, with a large administrative and nursing team.
This position involves a significant acute general surgery commitment and the elective colorectal commitment (including colonoscopy), as part of a dynamic team. The members of our Colorectal Surgical Department work closely together in a collaborative and supportive environment, and function well as a team. All the surgeons are involved in teaching, audit activities, clinical research and CME.
In addition, Christchurch offers great lifestyle opportunities. You will have access to the Canterbury culture and lifestyle, including the diverse experience of all of the South Island, with its lakes, mountains, vineyards and outdoor recreational opportunities. Popular activities range from the thrill of skiing to the gentler sports of wine tasting.
