NZMS is New Zealand’s leading digitisation and imaging bureau for cultural heritage materials such as photographs, manuscripts, publications, maps, works of art, and audio-visual records. We work primarily with galleries, libraries, archives, and museums throughout New Zealand, but our clients also include government agencies, private companies, iwi, and individuals. We have offices in Wellington (2), Auckland, and Christchurch.
This role is primarily focused on efficient operation of a scanner or camera and all the associated handling, prep, and quality control procedures associated with that. There is a high level of trust in this role in that due to the nature of the work. The NZMS team on this project are expected to guarantee accurate digitisation of the pages in each file, with no mistakes. Therefore, a high degree of concentration on the task at hand is expected in this role, as well as being prepared to question anything that may be ambiguous, or impact quality, and not assume a course of action without discussion with the Project Leader.
This role includes the end-to-end digitisation process includes a complex series of activities from selection or request for access, to listing and physical preparation of the item, to scanning, quality checking, ingest and publication and finally preservation of the digital surrogate. The chain of custody of the records - and any digital surrogates of them - must be carefully controlled and adhere to our customers handling and security requirements.
NZMS have staff with extensive experience handling records of this sensitive, confidential or private nature.
