At Airways, our values underpin all that we do. We value Safety, One Airways, Excellence and Success in all that we do.

**About the Role**:
Newly created full-time permanent role available as Solution Architect for unmanned flight operations that will be based at our Christchurch campus in Burnside.
Reporting into the Manager Air Traffic Services Development, you will work to ensure our technology outcomes and future roadmaps for the integration of unmanned flight operations are aligned with evolving business goals, strategies, governance, policies, and standards.

The role will also be responsible for acting as a liaison with industry experts, other ANSPs and regulators, to determine and meet the needs of this growing class of airspace users and facilitate an ecosystem which prioritises safety, resilience, and quality.
Key focus areas:
- Provide people, technical and thought leadership. There will be varying levels of dotted-line reporting initially which may expand.
- Solution architecture and design which encompasses leading the development of a future state and roadmap for unmanned operations.
- Planning and project management, acting as a champion and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for UAV related systems, adhering to appropriate governance, procedures, and policy requirements.
- Commercial and supplier management, fostering relationships with strategic partners such as NZ CAA in relation to UAV operations.
- Position our work so that an evolving charging model can be developed to provide a return on the investment in these new services.
**About You**:
To be successful in the role, you will have:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in software systems design and software development relating to unmanned aerial vehicles.
- Experience with drone detection and drone communication protocols, 3D mapping technologies and obstacle avoidance algorithms.
- Proven expertise with integration of complex UAV/Drone systems in real-time mission critical environments.
- A successful history of delivering innovative solutions relating to unmanned operations and the management of unmanned flights.
- Knowledge of future UAV/UAM technology directions and how they can lead to commercial/tangible outcomes for Airways.
- A tertiary degree in the Technology field or equivalent.
- Natural talent needed to lead, empower, mentor, motivate and work well with others.
- Ability to work in a dynamic business environment, influence and collaborate with people internally and externally, show resilience and agility, take ownership and focus on delivering successful business outcomes.
