Mō tēnei tūranga - About the roleThe equipment assets and other equipment resources are critical components in providing a professional fire and emergency service to New Zealand communities. Fire and Emergency New Zealand has currently 160,000 operational equipment assets worth $41 million in its inventory. These need to be well managed to ensure the safety of personnel, maintain operational capability, maintain readiness, ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations and legislation and provide balance between performance, cost and risk. The Depot Tech maintains and tests/certifies equipment and logistics equipment at the Regional Service Centre, at fire station and brigade sites and in the field during events or incidents that require FENZ intervention. The Depot Tech delivers and uplifts equipment to and from remote sites, suppliers and stakeholders.The purpose of the Depot Technician role is to:

- Perform maintenance and repair on regional fire and emergency equipment.
- Identify problems with equipment vehicles using diagnostic equipment.
- Plan maintenance, repair and servicing procedures using charts manuals and experience.
- Test and certify equipment functionality and fitness for service to National Equipment Management Policy Standards (NEMPS).
- Perform basic equipment care and maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid level checks, and rotation.
- Maintain equipment ‘swap out' pools.
- Operate ELSC warehousing, storage and distribution activity including firefighting chemicals and foam and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Be a credible source of advice on predictive, preventative and reactive equipment asset management, maintenance testing and general equipment husbandry.

Ko tāu nā ki tēnei tūranga - What you'll bring to the role To succeed in this role, you will have the following essential attributes:

- Be competent in small engine maintenance, repair testing and overhaul
- Understand and use Asset Management Information Systems.
- Have demonstrable skills in planning and organising to manage workload in an environment of competing priorities.
- Sound verbal, written communication and computer skills.
- Have problem solving skills and the ability to resolve engineering, logístical and distribution challenges.
- Be willing and able to travel regionally, and nationally where required.

To succeed in this role you may have the following desirable attributes:

- Have a New Zealand Certificate In Automotive Engineering (Level 3) or at least 4 years-experience in mechanical engineering.
- A valid Class 2 driver's license.
- A valid Forklift licence
- Previous experience or qualification in servicing, maintaining, repairing, storage and distribution of equipment (pumps, small engines, hose, waterway.)
- Experience in handling hazardous chemicals.
- Operational fire and emergency service experience.
