**_ The Team_**

Christchurch Women’s Hospital is a busy tertiary referral centre with approximately 6000 deliveries per year and incorporates a maternal medicine department. We have a large generalist population of Senior Medical Officers who also provide cover for our Gynaecology service and are the regional referral centre for Gynaecology Oncology for the South Island.

We are a training centre for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG) and have a complement of both training and non-training registrars within our service.

**_ The Role_**

We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Specialist or Medical Officer to join our GPU team covering abortion services and minor gynaecology procedures.

We are looking for a part time 0.25FTE Medical Specialist or Medical Officer.

You will be expected to provide elective first trimester and early second trimester abortion services and provide referrals and consultation to O & G SMOs for late second trimester abortions. You will also be required to carry out manual vacuum aspirations for first trimester miscarriages and minor procedures including pipelle biopsy and IUD removal and insertion.

We also provide teaching to medical students and junior medical staff.

Applicants would be encouraged to join the College of Sexual and Reproductive Health and complete the online Early Medical Abortion Course. Experience in IUD insertion and pipelle biopsy is an advantage but not a prerequisite as training and supervision in these procedures as well as abortion services will be provided.

GPU is open 4 days a week between 8 am and 2 pm, Monday to Thursday. The successful applicant should be able to work two regular sessions (one six and one four hour session per week). Flexibility to provide leave cover would be an advantage.
