He angitūtanga | About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic Ranger to join our Recreation/Historic Team in the Rakiura National Park. If you enjoy working in the outdoors, meeting new people and don't mind getting your feet wet then this may be the opportunity for you.
Rakiura/Stewart Island, south of Invercargill, is New Zealand's 3rd largest island. It is home to several front-country visitor sites, amenities, campsites, carparks and viewpoints, as well as a Great Walk track, short walks and access to multi-day walks.
You will be maintaining walking tracks in Rakiura/Stewart Island (Rakiura National Park) ensuring that they are kept to a high standard and in accordance with Department standards. At times you may be involved in other duties relating to the wider recreation/historic team or Biodiversity team.
This position is a full-time position and is based on the island.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

- A current First Aid certificate and valid Driver's License.
- Backcountry field experience and a high level of physical fitness
- Experience in building and plant maintenance is preferred with Chainsaw experience
- Track and structure maintenance experience
- Experience with vehicles, 4x4, LUV's and boating experience
- A team player with strong relationship skills in working with others.
- Ability to live and work in a small community, spending time away in remote locations.
- An understanding and appreciation of conservation values in New Zealand and an ability to communicate these to a wide range of people
- That ‘willing to go the extra mile', ‘can do' attitude and a practical know-how to make something out of nothing.
- Strong health and safety focus

The salary range for this position is $50,770 to $59,978 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience
