Seeking experienced teachers for an exciting opportunity

Are you an experienced teacher who's ready to take their career to the next level? We have a unique position that offers a rewarding challenge and incredible benefits. If you thrive in a professional environment with small class sizes, we'll invest in your postgraduate education and provide you with 0.4 release time to enhance your skills. At our institution, you won't be alone in your journey; we have a dedicated team of teacher aides, communicators/interpreters, and other educational experts to support you every step of the way.

Additionally, we're committed to fostering inclusivity and communication, so we're eager to help you learn New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL). While experience with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) is a valuable bonus, we're here to nurture your growth in this specialized area. Join us and make a meaningful impact in the lives of students with diverse needs.

**ABOUT US / MŌ MĀTOU**

Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand is a Specialist School for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students. We have a focus on growth, learning and collaboration. You will be joining a nationwide team and you will share their passion and enthusiasm for delivering high quality education and services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and the whānau we support. We have 12 provisions (satellite teams) based in primary and secondary schools in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

**THE ROLE / TE MAHI**

We are seeking for a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or be an experienced NZ registered classroom teacher who has in-depth understanding of the NZ Curriculum and assessment tools. This role also entails leading the Deaf bilingual provision, having oversight of teachers and teacher aides, along with our students, and ensuring the provision is effectively managed to support the students with their emotional and academic achievements.

In this role:

- Our class sizes are small, ranging from 2 - 7 students per class group.
- You will be a teacher with the right skills and attitude who can work with a range of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across all communication modes (including New Zealand Sign Language and spoken English) and in varying learning contexts. We will help you learn NZSL if needed.
- You will work within a Deaf Provision Teaching Team, which includes Teachers and Teacher Aides of the Deaf, with access to other specialists as required. Your strong knowledge of the NZ Curriculum means you will have the ability to adapt the curriculum to primarily focus on Literacy and Numeracy with our young students.
- Strong classroom management skills, and knowledge of planning for students' individual needs.

Applications will be considered from teachers with recent knowledge and understanding of the core business of lifting student achievement and wellbeing. Prior experience working with DHH students is desirable. If required, we will support you to develop an awareness of Deaf Culture and the Deaf community. Proficiency in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) - or a strong commitment to learning NZSL is essential.

If you are successful:

- We have study grants available, allowing you to complete post-graduate qualifications, taking you to the Q3+ salary scale. 0.4 release is provided while you study for 2 years.
- Once you have completed your post-graduate qualifications in Specialist Teaching (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) you receive a Sign Language Allowance (SLA).
- An additional MU will be provided for being Provision Lead.
- You will have the opportunities to meet other staff and students across the country.
