Kōrero mō te tūranga ' About the role
As Associate Director of Midwifery, you will be accountable for supporting the Director of Midwifery with the provision of midwifery leadership for maternity services across the district. As a member of the Midwifery team, you will be working on the continued development of the strategic direction for maternity services, providing professional leadership for maternity staff (midwives and nurses) and improving clinical outcomes for women and babies across the district. Professional leadership includes leading excellence in quality standards of practice and professional conduct, supporting the development of sustainable maternity services; and influencing across the sector. The role will help to strengthen the midwifery voice at all levels as well as championing new models of care, workforce planning and development, and innovation in practice.
This role will have portfolios assigned as agreed with the Director of Midwifery.
Generally the expected work hours of the ADoM role are Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 5pm, but there is a need for some flexibility as the role holder may be asked to support a senior midwife on-call roster as part of the Variance Response Management response.
Mō tō mātou rōpū ' About our team
The Director of Midwifery team will comprise three ADOM roles to support the midwifery sector. Responsible for the professional leadership across the system we are dynamic, flexible and responsive to multiple priorities. Leading excellence in quality midwifery standards of practice and professional conduct, supporting the development of sustainable maternity services; and 'leading with influence' across the wider system helping to strengthen the midwifery voice at all levels as well as championing new models of care, workforce planning and development, and innovation in practice, this is a varied role which will interest a creative thinker who can easily transfer theoretical ideas into structural processes. This is a fast paced environment where team members will be expected to produce independent results as well as contribute to the overall strategic thinking.
The team works closely with maternity services across the district including tertiary maternity services at Wellington Hospital, secondary maternity services at Hutt Hospital, primary maternity facilities at Kenepuru Hospital and the Kāpiti Health Centre.
Moū ' About you
We are looking for someone who has the following skills and experience:

- Registered Midwife with current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
- Post-graduate qualification in relevant field as a minimum (or commitment to work towards this)
- Good understanding of the New Zealand midwifery model of care
- Good understanding of contemporary midwifery professional trends and issues with relevance to the legislative barriers
- Credibility as a midwife within New Zealand
- Understanding of quality improvement methodologies
- Leadership within Midwifery, preferably in secondary or tertiary maternity servicesE pā ana ki a tatou ' About us
