The Department of Medicine at University of Otago, Wellington (UOW) has a proud tradition of high quality teaching, internationally recognised research and service to professional and community groups.

The Department is active and productive in many areas of medical research including disease mechanisms, new treatments and clinical trials of treatment.

**The role/Te mahi**

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established research team.

Key responsibilities for this role include reviewing literature related to the project, planning and conducting focus groups, data preparation, including cleaning and coding (using NVivo software) and qualitative data analysis and interpretation.

You will also draft papers for publication and other study outputs (e.g. conference presentations) and contribute as an author to all publications.

**Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako**
- PhD or equivalent doctorate in a health-related area (or compatible field such as the social sciences), normally required. Masters degree minimum or relevant postgraduate qualifications.
- Previous experience in qualitative research.
- Demonstrated capacity for independent research and a record of publications in refereed journals.
- May be transferring knowledge to the community and industry for the development of products and services that benefit society.
- Demonstrated ability to deal appropriately with confidential materials.
- Ability to relate well to academic and administrative staff.
- An understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Cultural awareness and ability to develop effective relationships and communicate in appropriate manner to all groups including Pacific Peoples.
