**What you will be doing | Ngā whāinga matua**

You will provide high quality technical support with a focus on molecular biology and microbiology, supporting teams within the Plant Protection Systems Group.

This is a varied role where you will be working across molecular biology, microbiology and undertaking field work. The focus of this work is primarily in the area of plant pathology and management of plants. With these skills you will be able to work on new research projects secured by the group and these may extend beyond the scope of plant pathology

To be successful in this role, the minimum qualifications required are:

- Tertiary degree in a relevant biological field (such as BSc degree or Masters), or three years' experience in molecular microbiology, microbiology, plant pathology, ecology or equivalent and/or other directly relevant experience
- Knowledge and experience of lab-based microbiology techniques including media preparation, microbial isolation and plating. Competency in basic pathology skills including sampling from diseased material, use of microscopes.
- Knowledge and experience in basic molecular biology techniques. Capability in molecular detection techniques such as PCR and qPCR will be important, with at least an introductory knowledge of bioinformatics techniques being highly desirable.
- Flexibility and willingness to engage in local travel and field experimentation as required, sometimes involving extended hours and overnight stays.
- A full, clean New Zealand drivers licence and the ability to drive a vehicle with manual transmission would be an advantage.
