He angitūtanga | About the role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a well organised and confident communicator to join the team as a part time Community Ranger focused on Conservation Board Support in beautiful Nelson.
In this position, you will provide excellent support, administration and services to the Nelson Marlborough Conservation Board. The role includes following responsibilities:
- Foster strong working relationships with Board Chair(s) and members
- Work closely with Statutory Manager and Board Chair(s) to develop meeting agenda and field trips
- Coordinate preparation for meetings and field trips, including venue arrangements, equipment, catering, travel, accommodation, health and safety, and guest speakers
- Prepare, collate and distribute Board papers and agenda in a timely manner
- Attend meetings, take minutes and ensure minutes are prepared and distributed in a timely manner in consultation with the Statutory Manager and Board Chair(s)
- Follow up after the meeting, including expense claims for Board members
This position is based in Nelson and you will be part of the Motueka District Community team. This position is part time (20 hours / 0.5 FTE) with some flexibility in your working hours. You will travel to Board meetings held across the region and, on occasion, have an overnight stay (accommodation will be provided, and may include overnight stays on marae).

You'll need to be flexible and positive, work well under pressure and tight timeframes, and be responsive to situations as they change.
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
- Previous experience in administrative, meeting support and minute-taking
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, both written and verbal, with high attention to detail
- Ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite and technologically savvy
- Outstanding relationship building skills including the ability to confidently liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders from a range of backgrounds
- Well-developed sense of cultural awareness, particularly in Te Ao Māori, and ideally including experience engaging and working in partnership with iwi and tangata whenua
- Excellent time management skills, including ability to prioritise and maintain a high level of accuracy while dealing with conflicting demands
- A full New Zealand driver's licence
**Desirable**:
- An interest in conservation and knowledge of the Department's work
Mō te tīma | About the team
DOC's Northern South Island Operations Region consists of five District Offices: Motueka, Golden Bay (Takaka), Sounds (Picton), South Marlborough (Renwick and Kaikōura) and Nelson Lakes (St Arnaud).
The Operations Team in Motueka District consists of 37 permanent staff members. They are led by an Operations Manager, Visitor & Heritage and Community, and an Operations Manager, Biodiversity and Project Janszoon. Development of the work programme is undertaken by Senior Rangers and the work is scheduled and teams are led by Supervisors. The permanent District Team is supported by temporary and seasonal staff. The District also has a broad range of contractors and volunteers who add to the strength and character of the team.
