Spotless Facilities Services (a Downer Company) delivers a range of Facilities Maintenance and Management Services to the New Zealand Defence Force. We have a leadership opportunity based at the Ohakea Airforce base to manage our grounds services including mowing, gardening, tree maintenance, landscaping, sports turf maintenance, spraying, curb and gutter maintenance and plant pest control. You will be responsible for managing the timely, cost efficient and safe delivery of our planned and reactive maintenance activities at site. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, this role forms part of the Site Leadership team and is the driving force behind managing our grounds team and services to deliver for our customer.
**You will also be responsible for**:
- Drive a lived experience (active engagement) of Zero Harm at the site.
- Scheduling and planning the workloads of the grounds team and subcontractors to ensure safe, timely and cost-effective jobs completion.
- Provide direction and leadership to the Grounds and Gardening teams.
- Be ‘hands-on’ - this role will be required to be onsite completing/leading jobs, directing the teams, ensuring jobs quality and completeness, and auditing work to ensure it meets contracted outcomes.
- Robust resource & continuity plans to manage servicing to critical assets.
- Ensure work orders are updated timely and accurately in our works management system.
- Develop strong collaborative customer relationships and ensure customer interactions are positive and constructive.
**Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills**
You will be a hands-on and authentic leader with strong communication skills. You will also bring with you:
- NZ Level 4 Turf Management or appropriate industry or tertiary qualifications in the areas of amenity landscaping, horticulture or turf Management.
- A minimum 5 years’ experience successfully leading a Grounds team.
- Experience with various types of machinery and equipment - tractors, mowers, vehicles and small plant.
- Working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
- Experience in reading and interpreting irrigation, turf and maintenance plans.
- Be physically fit and conditioned and agile.
- Be a strong communicator.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple demands.
- Must be computer literate and be able to use MS Outlook and MS Excel
- Must hold a current full driver’s licence.
