We are looking for Crew leaders who are passionate about people, production and safety to supervise teams of around 10-14 process operators and controllers in our Casting and Logistics Department. This is a great opportunity for someone who is keen to continue developing their current leaderships skills and experience and be part of an exciting journey to improve the way we work within the department.
Reporting to Operations Superintendent and working a “Roster 2” shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off), you will be:
- Leading, organising, developing and motivating the team to safely achieve the targets of shift whilst adhering to strict workplace health and safety policies and procedures
- Committed to lead and embed a positive safety culture and improve standards by providing visible and tangible safety leadership to the team
- Leading team improvement across the 5 Health and Safety fundamentals; Pre-start meetings, Workplace Conditions, Hazard Identification & Control, CRM, Leadership in the Field, Incident Investigation and Action Quality
- Mentoring team members on expectations for both safety and standard of work
- Proactively managing performance of team members using Rio Tinto best practice HR systems and consequence management guidelines.

Based at Tiwai Point in Southland, the operation is 79.36% owned by Rio Tinto and 20.64% owned by Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical Company. NZAS is a tolling plant, producing the lowest carbon, highest purity aluminium in the world in the form of ingot, billet and rolling block. The smelter is a significant supplier of aluminium to Japan and maintains a broad market base including Asia, New Zealand, the United States and Europe.
