This role is responsible for coordinating and then processing referrals and supporting triage for all of the elective orthopaedic surgical patient referrals that are received.
- The role is a permanent 1 FTE (40 hrs a week) position with the Orthopaedic Department, this role is based at Burwood Hospital
- You must have the ability to effectively communicate with the Orthopaedic Triage team, patients and members of the wider multi-disciplinary team.

**Mō te tūnga | About the role**

Orthopaedics is a busy service that provides both acute and planned elective orthopaedic surgery to the population of Canterbury and the wider region. This role is based at Burwood Hospital and as the only referrals co-ordinator in the service you are critical to the service delivery and making sure referrals are processed and triaged in a timely manner.

As a key member of the Orthopaedic administration team, you will be responsible for:

- Coordination of all referrals, electronic and paper that the department receives.
- Inpatient Waiting List Maintenance
- Coordinating the triaging of referrals
- Some typing of correspondence.
- Liaising with patients, surgeons, GP - s and the wider Orthopaedic team.

Your skills will include:
**Essential**:

- Essential Typing skills (typing speed of 50 - 70 WPM)
- Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure
- Excellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skills

**Desired**:

- Broad administrative experience in a health-related field
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiarity with the public hospital system (including the patient management system)
- Awareness of people of differing cultural backgrounds.
