MBIE has several building emergency management roles and responsibilities under the Building Act 2004 - from the initial response right through to recovery. These responsibilities sit within the building regulatory system at MBIE.

We are looking for a Senior Building Emergency Management Specialist to lead work which contributes to meeting our roles and responsibilities.

This is a new position and will be an exciting and unique opportunity for a suitably experienced person.

The work programme that you will be leading, will include things like:

- Lead the development of and ensuring that there is regular reporting on events for rapid building assessments. Ensuring that appropriate system tools are in place for territorial authorities to do this, such as Survey 123/Arc GIS.
- Establishing strong relationships with Territorial Authorities and the engineering community to ensure that they are prepared and understand their roles and responsibilities under the Building Act.
- Preparation and readiness for an event and supporting an internal Building Management response team with responding to events.
- Ensure that the register for Rapid Building Assessors is managed effectively, including working with IT on future IT improvements of the register.
- Support with developing reporting from the register and inputting insights into education and training requirements for the rapid building assessment training programme.

The Senior Building Emergency Management Specialist will report to the Manager Compliance and Assurance in the Building System Assurance team at MBIE.

You will work closely with other the Principal Advisor, Building Emergency Management and other staff working on this work programme.

**We are looking for someone with experience in the following**:

- Knowledge and experience rapid building assessments or a practical understanding of how building consent authorities operate.
- Knowledge and experience working in the building regulatory system or the ability to learn the building regulatory system.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead initiatives, taking ownership, generating buy-in and working collaboratively.
- Ability to quickly assimilate new information or areas of work.
- Experienced in identifying relevant risks and establish recommendations for mitigation.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify key stakeholders, and to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at various levels.
- Experience in working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including undertaking projects with representatives from building sector organisations.
- Brings a commitment to developing our team’s culture.
- Appropriate knowledge of Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) would be an advantage.
