General Instructor (Toi Maori, Whakairo) - Hawkes Bay Regional Prison
It's an exciting time to join Ara Poutama Aotearoa. We are halfway through delivering our strategic direction Hōkai Rangi. Launched in 2019, it expresses our commitment to deliver great outcomes with and for all people in our care and their whānau.
He kōrero mōu | About you
We are looking for your expertise within Toi Maori, Whakairo. Someone who is passionate, who wants to share their knowledge of Whakairo and our Maori artforms with people who have diverse life experiences.
We would like you to teach, support and use your life experiences to help others unleash their talents and be part of something that can be life changing Our Instructors support the men in our care to improve their work habits, work experiences and skills so that they can increase not only their chances of obtaining sustainable and legitimate employment but also open the opportunity for some to take the pathway into further higher learning upon release.
We seek an enthusiastic, creative and innovative Kaiako to teach Toi Maori with a focus on Whakairo and Kowhaiwhai.
**Ideally this person will have**:
- Diploma in Toi Maori (Whakairo, Carving) or equivalent
- Experience as an adult educator or NZQA assessor (4098 or equivalent) however it is not essential as we will support you to obtain this.
- Outstanding Health and Safety practices
- Good people skills and the motivation to develop others
- The ability to harness potential and be proactive in approach
- A current first aid certificate and full NZ driver's license. (Shouldyou not hold a current first aid certificate, we will support you to obtain this)
- The right to work in New Zealand or a work visa with at least 12 months remaining
It is important that in your CV and cover letter you accurately evidence your skills especially around your experience/qualifications that are in-line with the key competences of our role as this will be used as part of shortlisting process.
Ngā kawenga | About the role
In this varied role you will be working with the men under our management, helping them gain new skills and qualifications to improve their chances of finding real jobs upon release. You will enable our people to achieve NZQA qualifications and provide a platform of good working habits to take forward to the future. You will further support rehabilitation and reintegration practices.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of these men and to contribute to their future, the future of their whanau, and the communities they will eventually call home. You will be instrumental in helping individuals to discover a new career path, talent, passion or simply build confidence in their ability to learn.
Our current team works closely with all areas of the business and has a reputation for producing high quality work while delivering relevant, useful, and recognised training. For those in our care who choose to pursue a career post-release, the training and practical experience they gain will help them to secure employment.
You will be continually challenged in this role from facilitating adult learning and on-job training to Health & Safety, budget management and relationship building, both within the prison and external suppliers. Your passion will inspire others to achieve while your business acumen will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and to a high standard.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The full range of this salary is $67,514 - $83,191. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
