Ngā kawenga | About the role
Auckland Region Womens Corrections Facility Offender Employment (OE) is looking for a new catering instructor to join our team. We are looking for a talented “people person” who can cope with change, is adaptable to dynamic work environments, has high moral standards, and believes in the power of communication to make positive changes in a wide range of people's lives.
OE's purpose is to provide the women in our care with quality trade training and to assist them in continuing to develop a depth of skill and experience to gain employment post-release. You will be instrumental in providing prisoners with both an employment pathway in the catering and/or hospitality industries and assisting them to gain the work habits, experience, and skills sought after by industry employers.
A comprehensive introduction to corrections and extensive initial training are provided for the successful applicant. This will involve training on-site as well as at our National Learning Centre in Upper Hutt, Wellington, to focus on the custodial elements of the position.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
As an instructor, your role is multi-layered; you will have custodial responsibilities, industry-based responsibilities, and training responsibilities. Your ability to engage with all cultures and understanding the importance of tikanga and te reo Māori within our unique settings will be something we look for.
You will be involved in all aspects of the day-to-day running of the kitchen therefore, we are looking for people who are proactive, an energetic team leader or player who inspires others to perform at their best, and meet the following criteria:

- Formal qualifications or proven experience in commercial catering.
- Instructors are expected to hold, or, with the appropriate experience, be willing to gain, unit standard 4098 in adult education.
- Are calm, mature, and level-headed in their approach to problem-solving, communicating, and defusing conflict.
- A full NZ Driver Licence and First Aid Certificate (before job commencement) are required.

You will be required to work 80 hours per fortnight, on shift between 0600 and 1800 hrs, including weekends and public holidays.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The starting salary for this role is $70,014 with the possibility to progress to $87,691. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
