The Department of Surgical Sciences, located at Dunedin Hospital, is a major teaching and research department within the Dunedin School of Medicine. We excel in clinical teaching and training, linking science with clinical research, and developing our discipline nationally and internationally.

Our Brai3n group is interested in identification of cortical targets using electrical activity of the brain [recorded using electroencephalography (EEG)] and its treatment using non-invasive neuromodulation techniques (Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, and Neurofeedback) with novel stimulation paradigms. We are currently investigating a variety of disorders such as Tinnitus, Stroke, Chronic Pain, Alzheimer’s disease, Cognitive functioning, and Anxiety.

**_ The role/Te mahi_**

As a Research Assistant within our Brai3n group, you will be actively involved in research projects specifically exploring novel non-invasive neuromodulation for improving treatment for chronic low back pain.
- Assist in data collection.
- Liaise with members of Research Groups - surgeons, technical staff, postgraduate students and scientists.
- Provide research support for the Brai3n lab.

To be successful in this role you must have a professional approach and you should also be comfortable dealing with members of the public and clinicians.
- You will also have:

- A tertiary University qualification with a neuroscience/other health professional background.
- Research experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis would be desirable.
- Good organisational skills.
- Be able to work independently as well as within a strong team environment.
- Excellent writing skills, including evidence of ability to publish scientific papers in scientific journals preferable.
