We have an exciting 2-year fixed term opportunity for a Postdoctoral Scientist - Genomics to join our successful and growing team based at Kenepuru Science Centre in Porirua. This opportunity will see you also initially spend time with our collaborators at Massey University in Palmerston North. In this role you will develop a tool-kit to detect, identify and diagnose gastrointestinal parasites in sheep. Optimizing DNA extraction protocols from sheep samples (faecal, intestinal, blood) for sequencing with Oxford Nanopore technology will be crucial to the success of this project. You will play an active part in the genomics teams at ESR and Massey University.

To be successful in this role, you will have ideally several of the following attributes:

- A relevant postgraduate qualification in molecular biology, or a related discipline.
- Ability to collect samples from live and dead animals.
- Expertise in the extraction of DNA from animal samples, including blood, intestinal tissue and faecal material.
- A working knowledge of the New Zealand sheep industry.
- Demonstrable competencies in genomics techniques, ideally knowledge of Oxford Nanopore technology.

You will be an active collaborator across teams and be comfortable communicating with a wide range of people. You'll also be self-managing and able to work unsupervised at times.
