This is a permanent full-time opportunity for a supervisor to support the Murihiku Biodiversity team based in Invercargill. The team work strongly in partnership with tangata whenua in the management of lands and taonga species and have multiple strategic partnerships in action that support and enhance the conservation work that we do.

Murihiku is a diverse district covering alpine forests, lowland plains, and coastal environment. The district is home to several iconic species including the nationally endangered mohua/yellowhead, long tailed bats, giant weta and numerous rare and threatened plants. The critically endangered NZ sealion and endangered yellow eyed penguin and two sub-populations of Hector's dolphin also breed and live within Murihiku. There is a large amount of recreation opportunities for our visitors to experience and enjoy alongside our abundant flora and fauna.

He angitūtanga | About the role
Supporting the Operations Manager, you are responsible for planning, organising, and implementing the delivery of biodiversity work for our team of Rangers. Although the role is expected to be somewhat field based, supervising and supporting the Rangers you manage will also require you to place just as much importance on the delivery of office-based tasks.
You will work closely with the Operations Manager and Senior Ranger, Biodiversity to develop and deliver the work plans as well as collaborate with other teams to achieve greater conservation outcomes for the Murihiku District. You will maintain and build great relationships with the wider community, iwi, hapu and whanau.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
You will be an experienced people leader or an up-and-coming leader, ideally with experience in conservation. We want to hear from you if you have the following:

- Demonstrated leader/supervisor skills and the ability to inspire, motivate and coach a passionate team.
- Previous experience in biodiversity including knowledge of native flora and fauna and pest control.
- Strong field planning and coordinating skills, including the ability to prioritise your own work and that of the delivery team.
- Willingness to contribute to the wider office needs and culture e.g., duty officer, health and safety forums, represent the office in a public capacity.
- Strong understanding and values of health and safety.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- A high level of fitness with remote area/ backcountry experience.
- A genuine interest in the Departments management of our natural and cultural heritage, and an enthusiasm for engaging others in conservation.
- Self-motivated and can-do attitude.
- Full NZ drivers license.

**Desirable skills, experience, and qualifications**:

- A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in science or natural heritage management.
- Good knowledge of the Murihiku District.
- Current first aid certificate.
- Previous experience engaging and working in partnership with iwi and tangata whenua, as well as an understanding of the implications of te Tiriti o te Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) on today's society and conservation.
