Are you passionate about protecting te taiao, with an interest in partnering with whānau, hapū, iwi and others to achieve conservation outcomes? Enjoy looking after Wairarapa's beautiful ecosystems, including; Wairarapa Moana - one of seven New Zealand Ramsar sites, the Tararua, Aorangi and Remutaka Forest Parks and Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre..
Senior Rangers perform an advisory function to the Operations Manager. This involves leading the planning and prioritisation of the teams' work program, undertaking performance monitoring and reporting, having oversight of the teams' finances and holding higher level stakeholder relationships. Your role is future focused, so you must be able to plan adaptively for long term success of the programmes and ensure the team you work with is capable and organised to deliver-on these goals.
As Senior Ranger Biodiversity, you will be joining our talented Biodiversity team within the Wairarapa District Operations team. Your work will cover a diverse range of ecosystems from coastal, wetlands, podocarp forests and many other significant natural areas within the district. This is a leadership opportunity within the Wairarapa District Leadership Team which involves planning and influencing the prioritization of technical biodiversity work programmes relating to:
- threatened species management
- ecosystem restoration (e.g. wetland restoration, inland forest restoration)
- Pest animal and plant control programmes
- Partnership projects, including Jobs for Nature
It's an exciting time to join us with so many exciting projects in the works, such as; Wairarapa Moana and ungulate control. You can help us to achieve some great outcomes.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
If you have the below skills and experience we would love to hear from you:
- A strong commitment to Safety and Wellbeing in the workplace
- Planning, prioritisation, organisation skills
- Excellent budget and financial management skills and experience
- Contract and project management experience
- Experience in operating online system software
- A proven ability to work with others and manage relationships (i.e. community groups, landowners, regional councils)
- Ability and willingness to work closely with tangata whenua
- Understanding of biodiversity field work
- Skilled at coaching, training and supporting staff with the acquisition of technical knowledge
- Proven resilience, with ability to keep calm under pressure while managing high profile work
- Full NZ drivers licence
Desired
- Specialist experience/qualifications in either freshwater, pest control or threatened plants and/or species management
- Biodiversity fieldwork experience
- Familiarity with GIS and SAP software
