He angitūtanga | About the role
As a generalist Ranger you will carry out critical conservation work programmes throughout the Coastal Otago District. Your role is based from Dunedin and will be diverse and involve working with others on a variety of conservation projects. These projects span across all three functions: community, heritage, visitors, and biodiversity.

**The position will be focussed on**:

- promoting the value of conservation by lifting awareness and educating others
- delivering biodiversity work programmes with an emphasis on conserving coastal marine species and indigenous freshwater fish
- supporting the field work of the district including weed control and track maintenance.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
This role is outdoor focused with plenty of fieldwork opportunities. We're looking for someone who loves the outdoors and enjoys doing something different each day. If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

- A full New Zealand driver licence.
- A broad knowledge of New Zealand's conservation issues and practices.
- Experience and competence in the outdoors.
- Proficiency in the MS Office suite of programmes, data management and reporting.
- A can-do attitude and desire to learn.
- The desire to support others to grow their appreciation of conservation and nature, and to undertake conservation projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to tailor your approach to different audiences.
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.

**Desirable**:

- knowledge or experience in biodiversity in particular, coastal marine and freshwater conservation.
- experience with conservation compliance, technology such as GIS and GPS, and 4WD.
- first aid certification.
- experience with electric fishing.

Mō te tīma | About the team
The Coastal Otago Operations team, based in Dunedin and part of the Southern South Island Region, is led by the Operations Manager and comprises 23 permanent staff across the Community, Heritage and Visitors, and Biodiversity teams. Prioritising and scheduling work is co-ordinated by three Supervisors and three Senior Rangers.
We are a dynamic team with a deep passion for conservation and a culture of inclusivity and support for each other. Within Operations, you will join the Community team, you'll focus on building robust community relationships and advocating for conservation values. Your mahi will include diverse tasks supporting the wider district's efforts across all three teams.

The salary range for this position is $58,816 to $66,578 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
