**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**

The Auckland Harbourmaster is responsible for maritime safety on the navigable waters of Auckland including the Manukau, Kaipara and Waitemata harbours and out to the Mokehinau Islands, Waiheke Island and Great Barrier Island. The team prides itself on being the guardians of the water, ensuring they are safe and ready for commercial and recreational use while enforcing Maritime by-laws.

The Deckhand reports to the Skipper and helps carry out day to day Harbourmaster operations across the region. No day is the same as the crew recover wrecks, remove obstacles, maintain buoys, clean up oil spills and keep the Harbourmaster's fleet of boats in excellent condition. Our Deckhands will also work with the public to educate and promote responsible and safe water behaviour while also enforcing maritime laws and regulations.

The Harbourmasters Team is recognised as an essential service and operates 7 days a week. This role will be included on a rotating fortnightly roster which will include weekends and public holidays.

**This is a full-time, fixed term opportunity available from October 2024 to April 2025.**
