**1. General**

Student Services provides high quality integrated services that foster engagement, promote wellbeing

and support students in achieving their academic goals. The work of Student Services comprises the

following student services: administrative processes from enrolment through to graduation, enquiry

management, pastoral care, international student services, health, accommodation, counselling,

disabilities support, career development services, sport and wellbeing, student surveys and student

complaints and appeals.

The Director of Student Services is responsible for the overall management of Student Services, with

assistance from a team of Associate Directors including the Associate Director Student Health.

The University Health Service provides high quality, accessible health and wellbeing care to students.

The integrated, multidisciplinary team supports the educational process by modifying or removing

health-related barriers to personal development and learning.

**2. Position Purpose**

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide primary health nursing care for students

enrolled with the Student Health Service, in order to assist students to develop to their full potential.

**3. Accountability**
The Practice Nurse is responsible to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

**4. Functional Relationships**
**Internal**: Students

Associate Director, Student Health Service

Integrated Student Health Service team

**External**:Medical, nursing and social support services in the Waikato community

**5. Key Tasks
- **

Provision of primary nursing care for students currently enrolled at the University of Waikato.
- Promote health literacy and healthy lifestyle choices
- Work in collaboration with the integrated Student Health Service Team
- Manage the systems, processes and resources to meet the needs of the patient / consumer /

tangata whaiora in an efficient and effective manner
- Provide independent nursing care under standing orders.
Demonstrates excellent customer service, collaborative practice, problem solving and priority

setting skills.
- Incorporates Treaty of Waitangi principles into care delivery to contribute to the improvement of

Māori health status.
- Maintains own clinical knowledge and competencies
- Actively manages clinical risk, informs the Clinical nurse manager of incidents and contributes to

continuous improvement
- Participate in the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for self and others including

students.

Any other duties as required that are consistent with the position held, other than in exceptional

circumstance such as rehabilitation after injury or sickness.

**NOTE**:Staff have annual objectives, development and reflection (ODR) meetings with their manager. New

staff normally attend such a meeting approximately three months after taking up their appointment.

**EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS**

Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand as Registered Nurse
- A current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand

**Preferred

Immunisation certification
- Independent authorised vaccinator
- Postgraduate diploma

**TRAINING, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**

Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
