**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**
The primary purpose of the role is to provide overall leadership to a team of senior and principal advisors with responsibility for supporting the delivery of Hauora Māori Tūmatanui programmes across prevention, promotion and protection for the Hauora Māori Tūmatanui Directorate. In addition, this role is the rangatira of the Hauora Māori Tūmatanui teams in the Promotion, Protection and Prevention Directorate wharepuni to advance the Hauora Māori Tūmatanui work programme within the Promotion, Protection and Prevention Directorate and support a strong partnership between the four Directorates for the benefit of kaimahi Māori in all the Directorates.
**Hauora Māori Tūmatanui**:
There are significant expectations in the reforms, and in the kaupapa of the NPHS, that we will embed the principles of Te Tiriti and advance equity for iwi and Māori communities. The Hauora Māori Tūmatanui Directorate is the lead in supporting the NPHS to: embed the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi; support of iwi and Māori communities to realise their well-being aspirations; rapidly expand and develop our Māori workforce; and grow and develop the capability of our non-Māori and non-Pacific workforce to provide a culturally safe service.
To succeed in these aims, Hauora Māori Tūmatanui works as a cross-functional team embedded in all NPHS Directorates and supports our kaimahi Maori through the Pā Tūwatwata model to keep our workstreams safe and to have a strong foundation of togetherness utlising mātauranga ā whānau, ā hapū, ā iwi, to build a Māori workforce that is valued, elevated and can support the achievement of pae ora.
**Mōu | About you**
You will be a recognised leader of people, and dedicated to developing strategies and approaches that reflect the most recent advice, research and understanding of Hauora Māori Tūmatanui in achieving pae ora, particularly equity for Māori. You will also be driven by the aspirations of iwi and Māori communities we serve and be passionate about health promotion, prevention and protection programs that make a positive impact on their lives. **Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- Has proven experience in leading a team to achieve equity Māori health gain as well as achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori and supporting tangata whenua to deliver mana motuhake and Māori self-determination
- Minimum 10 years in Māori health and needs to draw on extensive specialised work experience, likely supported with professional qualifications
- Previous experience in leading and developing teams for the advancement of Māori health gain
- Understanding of kawa and tikanga and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi & significant experience working in partnership with iwi & Māori communities
- A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in business and/or health related areas, or comparable/extensive experience working at a senior leadership level
