**Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity**

Reporting to the Deputy Secretary, Critical Projects and Governance, the Executive Officer provides first rate executive assistance and astute and trustworthy advice to the Secretary for Māori Development. The person in this position smooths the Secretary's path - ensuring necessary arrangements are in place and resources and information are available, minimising snags and distractions, scanning the landscape, joining the dots and anticipating requirements - so that the organisation's leader is always well informed, well prepared and well supported.

The Executive Officer has a key role in supporting the effectiveness of the Secretary for Māori Development. Success in the role will mean the Secretary, with the Executive Leadership Team, is able to focus on the core business of Te Puni Kōkiri. This position understands the wider Te Puni Kōkiri environment which focuses on priorities and outcomes of our operating model.

**Ko wai koe | About you**

The Executive Officer will contribute to a range of activities across the Ministry and within the wider office of the Chief Executive. You will be required to build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with stakeholders within the wider public service and beyond. You will use your established relationships to engage and influence whānau, hapū, iwi and other stakeholders and be experienced in establishing effective and influential relationships with Māori interest groups.
- Experience in the delivery of first-rate executive support, and a commitment to service.
- Exceptional relationship management skills.
- Developed skills in the provision of advice in a complex and politically sensitive environment.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Presentation skills and personal credibility to be able to speak with authority on behalf of the Secretary for Māori Development.
- Well-developed skills in planning, organising and influencing across all organisational levels.
- Self-motivation and be a team player.
- Comfort in operating in a tikanga / kaupapa Māori environment, a degree of fluency in Te Reo Māori is desirable.
